Who is Bodo Mans?
On a recent trip I managed to sneak some time back in the junk shop where my obsession with West German Pottery and Fat Lava first began. Boy was I not disappointed! I saw some amazing pieces, two of which I was unable to buy as I was without my car on this trip (my first obvious mistake!) and two others that I was able to buy and carry home. I had not seen these particular patterns before so I consulted some experts and was intrigued to hear that one of the pieces I had purchased was designed by someone called Bodo Mans. What a great name I thought! I was so intrigued that I wanted to find out more…
Well that sounded easier than it turned out to be! Google rarely if ever fails me, even if it takes a bit of digging following my inital searches. All I could find after quite a long time at searching were a few listings for other pieces of his work on eBay! Each listing had no more information about this person aside from his name. Even Wikipedia failed me!
So while I really wanted to write this post about the man with the unusual name, I am afraid that I can't! All I can offer is that he designed several glazes and styles for Bay Keramik during the 1960s and his patterns are generally repeated runic style designs. I can however provide you with a couple of pictures of some of his designs.

According to Kevin, it's not confirmed that he designed these… I'm sure I read it on the P&G forum though. I love these as well, especially the 'Folklore' designs. Emma
Yes, Kevin said but on another website it suggested it may be…! I think it is possible seeing as it fits in with his general repeated runic pattern penchant! I love the sheer confusion of it all. I wish it was all listed as definite facts on Wikipedia!
